Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, lying 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the final bend on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car P3, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
