Government Official States Ministry of Defence Examining Security Risk from Chinese Cars, with Personnel Instructed to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

An defence official has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the possible threats associated with Chinese-made vehicles, and staff have been told to refrain from discussing classified information in all vehicles.

Safety Advice for Defence Personnel

During a recent appearance on LBC, a defence minister commented on claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to discuss classified information while riding in Chinese vehicles.

He stated that the ministry is “looking into” cars from China within its vehicle pools, however noted that safety is a issue in every modern vehicles.

We have a fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting MoD devices into their car, not to have discussions at a secret level in any vehicle, because of the growing risks of eavesdropping that are present in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a wise and reasonable thing for anyone concerned about security.

When it was put to him that it would be prudent for the MoD to stop using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: That is precisely what we are looking into at the moment.”

Wider Defence Context

The revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of dual-use kill switches in Chinese-made electric buses, which could allow the Chinese government to disable public transport and cause chaos to public transit.

Additionally, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly directing laser beams at RAF pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by defence officials.

This wider security environment underscores the importance of robust protocols and caution in all aspects of official operations, from vehicle usage to communication habits.
